Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are the educational institutions in the restoration of U.S. African-American students who aspire to higher education. HBCUs are not black, exclusive community, are accessible to students of any origin. There are currently 105 HBCUs (Source: Wikipedia) in the United States, most of which are located in the pre-Civil War slave territories of the USA. Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, is one of the most famous historically black university that has produced many characters celebrities, including Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and the poet Langston Hughes. It is also known for its outstanding school spirit and a student body socially responsible.
The application procedure in HBCU's exactly the same as in other colleges or universities. The founders of the HBCU institutions are known to emphasize in creating a positive environment for its students to have an encouraging experience totally new. While ethnicity is one of the most important differentiating HBCU of other educational institutions, students feel there are other differences too.
Lessons of study offer a deeper insight into the culture Black, including his achievements and contributions to history, mainstream institutions can not concentrate. Second, the problems of people of color, to include their fundamental rights, health, education, etc. are discussed openly. Students also feel that HBCUs train with a sense of identity, of being themselves, without having to face the fear of discrimination.
