The word "retirement" seems to surround you, it's everywhere you look! It has a bad reputation? Appears to be an unpopular term as people keep trying to be creative with new names and titles, as 3rd Age, Second Law and years of subsidy.
Regardless of the word you use, people know this is what happens after you finish your career. With the evolution of this stage in life come new ideas and new terms to describe them.
Bridge work is one of these new concepts. What the heck is a bridge work? It is a work that might have during the time between his career and when you actually retire, which means to be fully and unequivocally, unemployed.
The important thing to remember is that retirement is a process not an event. It can be a marathon, not a sprint. This is a stage of life we can do with time. You do not have to be a long race and bang! Retire. You can, but do not have to.
A bridge work may be the perfect transition for you, especially if it defines itself by its work. Could be a new line of work, can be part time, which can mean self-employment or self-employed you might enjoy working for someone else and let them handle most of the responsibilities.

* You are living longer and healthier than ever. With life expectancy at an all time high, it is clear that it will cost more if you want to be self-reliant and not dependent children and / or government.
In the U.S., the average retirement age is 56 years old. That could mean 30 years of life without work! Even if you have saved diligently, that is a long time to live without a paycheck.
