History and Origin of Pembroke Welsh Corgi

The origin of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is unclear.It are believed to have lived in Pembrokeshire, Wales, in the 10th century. Its Named after the Welsh dog to heel. It could have been bred since the Swedish Valhund Welsh Corgi and Cardigan. In the year 920 King Hywel Dda of South Wales, said a Corgi law not be abused. Another breed introduced to Wales by Flemish weavers in 1107 may have crossed earlier Corgi. Some experts believe that race is descended Shipperke and the former belongs in the same family as the Keeshond, Pomeranian, Spitz, Samoyed, Chow Chow, and Norwegian Elkhound. A legend says that race was given to the people by the fairies, although this story is given little credibility.

Corgis were bred for herding cattle, sheep and Welsh ponies. His small stature made it possible for the animals large herd chasing and biting his heels too low to the ground for animals in the herd of kicking. If an animal is to try to turn around, the Corgi would cut off the nose. The dogs were used to save the children and family pets, as they are today.
