Australia's famous painter, sculptor, scale modeler, writer and editorial cartoonist Norman Lindsay (Norman Alfred William Lindsay) was born on 22 February 1879 in Creswick, Victoria. It was the fifth child of his parents, Robert Lindsay, an Irish surgeon, and Jane Lindsay. At the age of 16 years, Lindsay left for Melbourne and has worked as an illustrator for the local journal, the "Hawklet. He married Agatha Catherine Parkinson in the city of Melbourne on 23 May 1900. They had three children, Jack, Raymond and Philip, and Divorced 1918.
In 1902, Rose Soady, who later became his second wife, she began modeling for Norman. During his stay in Europe since 1909 until 1911, Lindsay performed 100 pen and ink illustrations for Satyricon "of Petronius," in Naples. He also made sketches of ship models that were present Museum in South Kensington, London. Lindsay was set up in a passion for model ship that lasted throughout his life. He returned to Australia in 1911. On January 14, 1920, Rosa Soady married and had two children with her.
Lindsay was talented and prolific in all disciplines that he was involved, including painting on canvas, sculptures in concrete and bronze, woodcuts, pen and ink, and prints. Being talented in so many areas of lead to him being known as perhaps the most famous painter in Australia. But his frankness and excess nude works generated a controversy in Australia and abroad. In 1904 his work was deemed blasphemous, his novel "Redheap" was banned in 1930, and in 1939 many of his paintings were burned by protesters in the U.S..
The topic dominates naked in almost every work of art that have been attempted. "The Sphinx "(Acuarela, 1922)," Duality "(Sketch, 1920)," Languid "(oil, 1934) and" Court of peacocks " (oil, 1927) are some of his paintings in oil on canvas representation. The gardens of his home in Faulconbridge in New South Wales, which has became a museum gallery and the name of Norman Lindsay, are filled with sculptures of nudes created by Lindsay. Some of the most prominent are the "Source Women leaning "," Female Figure with breasts, "" Satyr and Sphinx, "" Sirens "and" The Satyr Following a nymph.
While working as editorial cartoonist, the "Red Menace" and "Yellow Peril" were popular subjects illustrated. "Age of Consent", "Fiji's cousin," "Halfway to Anywhere", "Saturdee" and "prudent Amorist" Some of his famous literary works. "The Magic Pudding", Lindsay's book for children, is considered a classic. In 1968 his book was published line drawings in Australia and the U.S., and in 1969 a reprint of his book was also published watercolor.
